Lac St Jean is a beautiful spot in northern Quebec.
We were fortunate enough to spend 2 months in a cozy micro-cabin on Lac St Jean in Saint-Félicien overlooking the lake (albeit frozen) in the winter of 2017.
You can expect the winters to be COLD!!! Like minus 35 (Celsius) cold. This can make it difficult to enjoy the city if you aren’t prepared, but it can also be a fun opportunity to try something new. These were the best of the best things to do near Lac St Jean.
Snowmobiling is the most fun and one of the easiest ways to get around. There are tons of trails and the lake is completely frozen, so you can ride across the lake into town.
Grab some hot cocoa or maybe a beer and meditate with this tranquil pastime. You can see the cute huts, at least 100 of them all lined up throughout the winter.
Zoo Sauvage de Saint-Félicien
Why not go to the zoo? The animals live in large habitats where you can observe them in their natural habitat. Take the train throughout the zoo to get the most out of your experience.
Tree to Tree
We didn’t get a chance to do this in the dead of winter, but we heard great things about the outdoor adventure Tree to Tree. They have a range of courses that increase in difficulty so you can go more than once and improve your skills while enjoying the outdoors.
We had a great time in our little cabin. I will warn people that it is a mainly French speaking town. If you plan on spending a chunk of time there, you should learn enough to get by. Prepare for the grocery store and other common places so that you don’t feel overly out of place.
